[VIDEO] - A Woman's Worth | Marianne Williamson

See VIDEO below

We remember EVERYTHING
We remember Mary holding the baby
We remember watching Him die
We remember wars and murders
We don't even know we remember.

We remember ancient temples, sites
healings and our prophecies.

We remember genital mutilation
and Sophie's Choice.

We were present at the beginning of things
and if people will only let us,

We will teach the marvelous lessons
we learned from the experiences.

See VIDEO below

We cannot get to our knowledge
because the world is too loud and we
tend to make it louder as we cry out in pain,
pretending we are singing

We add to the world's cacophony because
we don't know its our job to tone down the
noise and listen to silent symphonies.

No one told us that!

For thousands of years,
they haven't wanted us to know.
But when we break free and see the game
for what it is, we will let out a howl--

and our silence will be defening.

We will hear the Holy choir of angels,
our eyes will brighten,
and our smiles will burst forth.

We will see the angels
and know the angels,
and do lunch with them,
and speak their case.

We will be intimate with the stars and
ride rainbows to ancient lands.

We will light up like lamps, and the world
Will never be the same again. ~~

The ACT vs. SAT Myth | Take One or Both?

Find a local tutor today!

For students planning on going to college, junior year is ridden with college apps and tests, namely the ACTs and SATs. The rule of thumb  has been “the east and west coast schools value SAT scores more, while the mid-west wants an ACT score.” While this generally proves to be true, here’s a fast break down on the similarities, differences, and whether it’s worth taking both tests.

As a student, your first concern may be “What’s on the test?” The ACT and SAT differ slightly in content included. The SAT includes only three subjects: Reading, Math, and Writing. All three of these portions of the test are absolutely mandatory. The ACT, on the other hand, tests Math, English, Reading, Science, and Writing (if you so choose).

-->

WRITING: “Wait, the ACT tests writing only if I choose to do so?” That’s right. As a student, you decide whether or not you want to take the writing portion of this test. However, beware! Some colleges require the writing portion, some suggest it (and will look at it as an additive part of your score), and some do not care about the writing score. As a rule of thumb, if you aren’t sure where you’re applying yet, taking the writing portion is your best option. Cover all of your bases.

COST: Each of these tests costs money, which is one reason why it is important to figure out whether or not it’s necessary to complete both. If you are only applying to schools that want the ACT, then don’t take the SAT. If you’re still unsure, as many college students are, take both of them, and then send your records only to schools that want that particular test score (as sending scores can be an additional cost). The actual cost of each test is: SAT - $50 ($17 late fee), ACT - $35 ($50.50 with the writing portion). So, financially speaking, there’s no benefit to choosing one test over the other.

STYLE: Possibly the biggest difference between these two tests is the style of testing used. The ACT measures what you have learned in school (knowledge), whereas the SAT measures your verbal abilities and reasoning (aptitude) without solely relying on what you’ve learned in school. This means that, on the ACT, you’ll only see questions pertaining to what you have (or should have) previously studied. On the SAT, you may see articles, charts, and graphs related to something you’ve never heard of before -- but you will be given enough information that, combined with your critical thinking skills, you will be able to deduce an answer from what’s given to you.

PENALTIES: That probably sounds like the SAT is way easier, right? Not necessarily. The SAT test makers take off quarter of a point for every question you answer incorrectly; however, questions you leave blank do not count against you. Therefore, if you were to answer one question correctly, and the next four incorrectly, you’d have a score of 0.

THE MYTH: “The ACT is easier” Many students that take both the SAT and the ACT claim that the ACT is easier, and/or students score better on the ACT. This is likely due to the fact that the ACT only includes questions regarding things you have (or should have) learned. Therefore, you’re more at ease in answering the questions, because it’s familiar to you. The SAT is not the same; it will likely give you unfamiliar information and ask you to use it to solve a problem, which uses your critical thinking and reasoning skills. Although many students possess and are capable of answering these questions, they are often nervous about taking the test that will get them into college, and therefore do worse on the SAT than the ACT, purely due to lack of familiarity. ~

Question: Why does your child's tutor, tutor?

According to Dr. Sandi Ayaz, executive director of the National Tutoring Association, "...private tutoring in the U.S. alone has “exploded tenfold” over the past eight years."

While some parents hire tutors to help their children overcome academic obstacles, other parents hire tutors to encourage and challenge their children in ways that might not be possible in a classroom setting. Whatever the objective of the tutoring may be, it’s important for parents to take the time to locate and hire a tutor who will work well with their child’s learning style and personality.

To ensure you have found the right tutor for your child, ask your tutor the following questions before beginning lessons:

1. What is your teaching style? Every student learns differently, which is why it’s impossible for school teachers to structure their classroom lessons to match each individual student’s preferred learning style. The right private tutor, however, can adapt lessons to cater to your child’s strengths whether he is an auditory learner (learns best by listening), visual learner (learns best through sight) or a kinesthetic learner (learns best through experience). Before you hire a tutor, find out if he can structure lessons in a format that is conducive to your child’s preferred learning style.

2. What is your plan for helping my child? While this may seem like a loaded question for someone who has not yet met your child or even seen examples of his school work, the response will reveal the tutor’s thought process for diagnosing your child’s needs and creating a plan to achieve the desired results. The right tutor will have a strategy, and possibly specific methods, for identifying problem areas and understanding the child’s learning behavior. An effective tutor will also recognize the importance of working with the student (and in some cases, the parents) to establish performance improvement goals that are both measurable and attainable.

3. Why do you tutor? Tutoring is about building a productive learning relationship between a tutor and student. The most effective tutors are individuals who are passionate about teaching and are able to derive value from seeing their students succeed. While many tutors provide lessons as a primary or supplemental source of income, the ideal tutor will take a vested interest in your child’s progress and have the patience and willingness to do whatever it takes to help your child succeed.

4. Do you have any references, or have you worked with students in a similar situation as my child? Objective, reliable references are very informative but they can also be hard to come by. Online tutoring marketplaces like WyzAnt.com compile lesson ratings and written reviews from actual students who have previously worked with tutors. Reading third-party reviews from parents and students who have worked with a tutor will provide invaluable insight into what you can expect from a tutor in terms of subject proficiency and personality. If you choose to hire a tutor on your own rather than through a reputable marketplace, it’s still a good idea to ask for references; however, the reference you receive may not be a completely impartial source.

5. How can you help my child become an independent learner? The most effective and valuable tutoring relationships will help the student become a more engaged, independent learner. Memorizing and mastering very specific topics or skills may yield some results, but it is ultimately a short-term solution to the student’s broader educational needs. While certain lessons may focus on a particularly troublesome topic, learning to understand and appreciate the learning process, theory and logic behind concepts will help your child overcome subsequent obstacles, avoid future frustration and flourish as a student.

WyzAnt.com is an online marketplace for private tutors. WyzAnt’s network includes more than 65,000 active private tutors nationwide in subjects that range from math and science to test preparation and music. Help your child reach their potential.

Legalease ...of special interest to artists, athletes, musicians, etc.

Entertainers - this is for your consideration.
In plain 'kindergarten' English, learn the basics of
Business Contracts  &  Tort litigation--
Two online courses described below may help you better understand what's in those contracts you're signing and how to stop those 'ugly' things people are saying about you behind your back.

Are you aware
that law is a bit different
for private citizens
as opposed to
commentary  or  public figures?

Credit: FanPop.com

That a public figure (i.e., celebrities and politicians) who depend on in essence,  a "fan base" to earn a living, sets forth a condition wherein  the condition actually places the celeb in a quirky category of legal protection by law.  And in similar fashion, commentators may be subject to ridiculous caricature and/or parody.  So then, what is the definition of a  public figure?  Paraphrasing from Black's Law Dictionary... Have you 'assumed [through a set of specific actions on your part], a role of special importance in society' ... 'where public attention is focused upon you?'

This is going to be a long post.  But the information will be well worth the read.  Bill Gates talked about these courses on 60 Minutes!

Knowledge is Power!  Vast sums of monies are spent by industry creatives to ensure and protect one's legal interests.  Do you actually understand what your high-dollar attorney is explaining or does half of his/her jargon go over your head?  ***crickets***   Exactly, and you're not alone.

To bridge that gap of 'awareness,' may I suggest that you order one-- if not both-- of the following digital audio eLearning courses?

With the information presented in our first eCourse offered, you may very well achieve a better understanding of the all important, business contract.  In our second eCourse, you will get a handle on and learn the substance of negligence and torts and how you're affected by this harm, done to you by others.

One thing I know for sure, you'll most certainly leave your attorney's office feeling more aware of the many machinations inherent in the entertainment world.  And... what if we exposed our 'industry teens' and/or our young family members to this powerful information?  Perhaps you may open up the possibility of creating an entertainment attorney in your family.  First up!

Business Law: Contracts

What is a contract? How can you make one binding? How can you avoid being prematurely bound by one? What can you do to get out of a contract? What remedies are available if someone breaches your contract? What special rules apply to international contracts? When is a contract not binding? When does a mistake by either party or fraud by one of them invalidate a contract?

"...Contractual agreements are one of the principal mechanisms for ordering life in society. Whether a contract is written or oral, or even implicit, it carries with it all of the duties and obligations that society has endowed with the force of law."  --Professor Frank B. Cross

Credit: Blaberize.com

In 8 lectures you will get these questions answered-- and more!  Lecture 1 explores the boundaries of contracts in law. It discusses the four main requirements that any contract must satisfy.  Lectures 2 and 3 give greater detail about the main components of a contract. One party makes an offer and the other accepts, refuses, or makes a counteroffer, but there are many possible slips in between. Which offers are binding? The preliminary issues of offer and acceptance are examined in Lecture 2, including the ability of parties to negotiate, the definiteness of a contract's terms, and terms of acceptance.

Who knew being a singer, artist or entertainer would be so challenging?  But read on, there's more.

In Lecture 3, we look at three more elements of a binding contract: What each party must give up for a contract to be made ("consideration") Whether and when those of a diminished capacity, such as children or the insane, can make contracts.  When a contract must be in writing. When is a contract not binding?

Lectures 4 and 5 consider the possible reasons for declaring contracts void or breached. When does a mistake by either party or fraud by one of them invalidate a contract? When can a party successfully claim that an agreement was reached under duress? In Lecture 4, you get answers to these questions.  90% would recommend this to a friend.  Order here:  Business Law: Contracts

Business Law: Negligence and Torts
This course addresses two important questions: When is someone else legally responsible for harm done to you? When are you legally responsible for harm done to someone else?

This digital audio course of 8 lectures discusses torts, the body of law designed to redress, through civil litigation-- harms done to persons.  Each lecture is 30-minutes in length.  Lectures 4 and 5 deal with the celebrity high-profile, occasionally controversial topics of defamation, privacy, and emotional distress. In Lecture 4, you look at the law of libel (written) and slander (oral) that damage a person's reputation. Several requirements of defamation are discussed, as well as the 'privilege to defame' which can attend commentary on public figures.  Note: 83% would recommend this course to a friend.

No One Even Knew She Was There!

“…First they declare you inferior; then they systematically make it illegal for you to prove you’re not.  In their hearts, they know you’re not inferior—they just want a huge slice of the pie.”  --Mavis Leno

Credit: ZIMBIO.com

I think like this.  No matter where in the world we live-- human beings want to be treated in a humane way.  I was reminded of the work of MAVIS LENO, when I received a newsletter from the folks at CODEPINK a few days ago.  Mrs. Leno’s work with women in Afghanistan could be work for women in many parts of our World.

She heads up the Campaign to Stop Gender Apartheid in Afghanistan.  But in that part of the World, the way of living for the majority of women is horrific and filled with unbelievable strife.  The mistreatment of a person because of  one's sex is particularly disturbing and offensive to my common sense... which brings me to why I’m writing this post.

Could you imagine living “cut-off” from the World?  No Internet access.  There but not there.  Erased except for the labor you provide to the dominant male in your home.  Little freedom to go about your daily life and certainly not permitted to earn a wage outside the home.  Living essentially under a house arrest?  Would it ever cross your mind  to wonder if SOMEONE actually knew you were living as such?

When interviewed for Oprah’s book, LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE: A Teasury of Wisdom, Wit, Advice, Interviews, and Inspiration-- journalist Michelle Burford ('The Un-Hollywood Wife'), asked Mrs. Leno to speak to the why behind her Cause.  This was her reply.

“…When my dad was a teen, he did hard-rock mining to bring in money.  One summer he lived through a cave-in.  When he was rescued after a few hours, he said the most terrible thing wasn’t thinking he would die; it was believing no one even knew he was in there.”

Because of her dad's experience, Mrs. Leno was frantic to let the women of Afghanistan know, their plight was SEEN and to bring them hope.  Think on this will you?  Our voice matters ladies.  Join me and take a moment to discover more about the vital work of Mavis Leno’s  Campaign (...and that of CODEPINK).
